Number 1

Congratulations to Roy Heanes who was one of six people to submit the correct solution. Roy wins a ‘free game’ voucher for use at the club.

The author might have produced a fuller solution because it appears  to be critical to cash AD before ducking a spade, otherwise declarer will not be able to test for Kx of diamonds if the opposition play a second spade immediately. Also if the defense play two rounds of clubs before playing another trump, as suggested by the author, declarer can run all the trumps and there will be a squeeze if West started with 4 spades and KD.
